Basal-Like Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia and Basal-Like Ductal Carcinoma In Situ: Evidence for Precursor of Basal-Like Breast Cancer

چکیده

Basal-like breast cancer (BLBC) is identified by gene expression profiling studies and associated with worse overall survival. The identification of possible precursors BLBC important to gain insight into tumorigenesis therapeutic targets.

Identification of a basal-like subtype of breast ductal carcinoma in situ.

Microarray profiling of invasive breast carcinomas has identified subtypes including luminal A, luminal B, HER2-overexpressing, and basal-like. The poor-prognosis, basal-like tumors have been immunohistochemically characterized as estrogen receptor (ER)-negative, HER2/neu-negative, and cytokeratin 5/6-positive and/or epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-positive. The aim of this study was to...

Biomarkers for Basal-like Breast Cancer

Initially recognized through microarray-based gene expression profiling, basal-like breast cancer, for which we lack effective targeted therapies, is an aggressive form of carcinoma with a predilection for younger women. With some success, immunohistochemical studies have attempted to reproduce the expression profile classification of breast cancer through identification of subtype-specific bio...

Immunohistochemical characteristics of basal-like breast cancer

Basal-like breast cancer (BLBC) occurs mainly in young patients. It is characterized by an aggressive clinical outcome, presence of distant metastases, particularly within the first five years of the disease, bad prognosis and relatively high mortality. Recently greater interest of scientists in this subtype of breast cancer has been observed. Despite such many well-known potential biomarkers o...

Basal-like grade III invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast: patterns of metastasis and long-term survival, Breast Cancer

Introduction Cytokeratin (CK) 14, one of several markers expressed in normal myoepithelial/basal cells, is also expressed in a proportion of breast carcinomas. Previous studies have suggested that expression of such 'basal' markers predicts different biological behaviour, with more frequent lung and brain metastases and poorer prognosis than other carcinomas. Methods We performed CK14 immunohis...

Basal-like breast cancer: a critical review.

Recent gene expression profiling of breast cancer has identified specific subtypes with clinical, biologic, and therapeutic implications. The basal-like group of tumors is characterized by an expression signature similar to that of the basal/myoepithelial cells of the breast and is reported to have transcriptomic characteristics similar to those of tumors arising in BRCA1 germline mutation carr...
